Having served many years in a diverse range of capacities, a plantation house, public reception center and an aviary among others, it is currently used as the Zoo administration building. While not listed on any historic registers, the heritage value of the building was significant to the city so the project strived to preserve the character of the original structure while making sensitive modifications to the entrance to make a safer, more accessible facility. The project also incorporated some limited material restoration and new paint.
