The Borough of Parkside is a small community that has been surrounded by the Philadelphia Metropolitan area and has suffered by a lack of identity and community space. The Penn-Delco School District made a commitment to this community to not only keep the school within the boundaries of the Borough, but to also forge a civic identity within the larger urban landscape. The compactness of the building is a function of its confined site. Its form and massing have been articulated to fit in the residential neighborhood it serves. The materials were selected to connote permanence with a diversity of texture and color.
